ISSN: 0020-0255

Aims and Scope of the Special Issue

Ambient intelligence is a vision on the future of consumer electronics, telecommunications and computing where devices work in concert to support people in carrying out their everyday life activities, tasks and rituals in easy, natural way using information and intelligence that is hidden in the network connecting these devices.

The metaphorical use of concepts, principles and mechanisms underlying biological systems is characteristic of human-designed computing inspired by biology. This type of computing comprises an array of areas including Evolutionary Algorithms, Neural Networks, Swarm Intelligence, Immunological Computing, Hybrid Methods, Intelligent Agents and Agent Theory, molecular computing and quantum computing among others.

This special issue is soliciting papers on all aspects of bio-inspired algorithms for ambient intelligence systems and their applications. This special issue provides an opportunity to present and discuss the latest theoretical advances and real-world applications in this research field.

Topics of interest

The topics of interest include but are not limited to:

Bio-inspired modeling of responsive/active architecture

Applications to security, prediction, control, robotics, image and speech signal processing, food industry, biology and medicine, business and management, knowledge management, artificial societies, chemical industry, pharmaceuticals, geographic information systems, health care, materials and environmental engineering and alike.
