Short Bio

Álvaro Herrero is a Full Professor in Artificial Intelligence at the Higher Polytechnic School of the University of Burgos (Spain). He has been an academic at Burgos since September, 2005. His main research interests are related to applied Artificial Intelligence (AI), including artificial neural networks and other machine learning methods, multi-agent systems and hybrid artificial intelligence, addressing a wide variety of fields such as industrial systems, cybersecurity, environmental sciences, eHealth, and business management among others.

Álvaro Herrero has co-authored more than 150 scientific publications, comprising more than 50 publications in JCR-indexed journals and many more in international reputed conferences. He serves as a reviewer for some international journals and is a member of the editorial board of the Soft Computing (Springer) and Progress in Artificial Intelligence (Springer) journals. Dr Herrero has also been local chair, organizing chair, program committee chair, session chair and special session organizer for a number of conferences. He has been involved in various publicly and privately funded research projects, and has supervised several PhD thesis exploring the application of AI to several different real-life problems.

He is a member of the “International Advisory Committee” of the ICEUTE conference since its launch in 2010 and he has experience in encorauging STEM careers (head of FIRST LEGO League Burgos and World Robot Olympiad Burgos educational programs), and also in programs for the detection and development of high-abilities and talent.

Álvaro Herrero is an IEEE Senior Member and the Chair of the IEEE Systems, Man & Cybernetics Society - Spanish Chapter and has been Officer at IEEE Spain.
